Hermès Wanderland

Welcome to Wanderland the man said as I entered and was handed the exhibition guide and what a wonderland it was. Hermes's new exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery opened on April 9th to coincide with their New Bond Street store reopening.

The exhibition is based on the Parisian art of 'Flâneurie' basically strolling around absorbing the urban landscape and seeing it for all it's quirks and curiosities.
This exhibition is certainly quirky and off the wall but in the chicest most elegant way possible, typical of Hermes.
It also showcases some of the archive pieces throughout Hermes's history.
Like this pheasant feather umbrella owned by Emile Hermes himself.
Stepping into the Hermes wardrobe complete with their iconic orange boxes was like entering Narnia.
Inside it was a feast for the eyes, the dressing room of a handbag obsessed woman on one side.
With the greatest selection of rare collectable Kelly Bags.
And a sports fanatic man on the other.
The exhibition is also a real celebration of Hermes's home town of Paris.
Having just spend a month living in Paris it was really interesting to rekindle my love for the city back on familiar ground.
With iconic Parisian staples like the Morris Columns you see all over the city displaying various different advertisements.
This one was upside down and spinning around the room.
Filled with Hermes bags and accessories.
Another Paris staple is of course the cafe.
Much time is spent in these urban retreats.
And apparently in this one a lot of forgotten objects and souvenirs are left behind to discover.

My favourite room however had to be the graffiti alley.

The highlight of which was this graffitied Haut a Courroies bag hidden away behind a cracked door.

Next up the Parisian passage with it's pokey little shop windows full of intriguing objects of desire.

Like an elephant in a china shop.

an Hermes leather petrol canister.
Or a Collier de Chien, I'd love one of these in bracelet form.
Overall I loved this exhibition I really did feel like a Flaneur.
Peering in windows poking behind cracked doors.
Leaving I felt an appreciation for the mundane there is wonder hidden out ,there you just need to look hard enough.
